Jorge (Ji) Soto Parejas
Second Year PhD candidate

Jorge (Ji) Soto is a second-year PhD candidate at The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources, UCL, specialising in indoor plant–microbe interactions and environmental design. Drawing on a multidisciplinary background spanning architecture, biological sciences, and environmental research, he investigates how indoor plants act as active environmental modifiers, shaping microclimates, humidity dynamics, airborne mould behaviour, and broader indoor environmental quality. His work bridges phytoremediation, phytopathology, and built-environment performance to advance mechanistic understanding of plant–microbe interactions indoors and translate this knowledge into sustainable, wellbeing-oriented design frameworks that inform healthier environments.
