Hangchuan Wei
PhD candidate
I’m a PhD candidate at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. My research focuses on probiotic modelling, using digital design and fabrication to shape indoor microbiomes through architectural design. I treat environmental behaviours (such as airflow and thermal) as a medium for interpreting, visualising and integrating the otherwise invisible microbiome in the built environment.
I position my thesis as a design interface that connects microbiology and architecture, aiming toward a holobiont future. My PhD is supervised by Dr. Marjan Colletti and Dr. Sean Nair, and is supported by an EPSRC-funded project led by Richard Beckett (PI). Previously, I completed my master’s degree under the supervision of Richard Beckett at UCL, and bachelor’s degree under Dr. Jindong Wu and Fan Chen at Zhejiang University.
