Dr Tijana Blanusa
Principal Horticultural Scientist at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS)
Principal Horticultural Scientist at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), Tijana leads the Ecosystem Services Research Programme, focusing on how plants contribute to healthier urban environments. Her research explores the structural and functional traits of plants that can be optimized to deliver multiple benefits, including urban cooling, rainfall mitigation, and improved air quality. Based at the University of Reading, Tijana teaches modules on Green Infrastructure and Ecosystem Services and supervises undergraduate, MSc, and PhD students. She is passionate about translating scientific findings into practical guidance for gardeners, encouraging greener spaces that enhance biodiversity and reduce environmental risks. Current projects include studying hedges for ecosystem services, green walls for indoor air quality, and sustainable planting choices. Dr Blanusa’s publications can be found here.
