Dr Jannis Wenk is Head of Department G1 – General Water Quality Issues at the Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG) in Koblenz, Germany. Jannis earned his PhD from Eawag – ETH Zurich in 2012, followed by postdoctoral research at UC Berkeley as a Swiss National Science Foundation fellow (2012-2014). He served as Assistant and Associate Professor in Water Science and Engineering at the University of Bath (2015-2025) before starting his new role in Germany in March 2025.

Jannis' research interests cover water treatment with specific focus on oxidation processes, water distribution systems, nature-based solutions (specifically treatment wetlands), and environmental water quality. Jannis has collaborated with water industry and local water utilities and maintains a strong interest in interdisciplinary research, including urban greening and climate adaptation, which attracted him to GREENIN.

Role in GREENIN
Jannis will contribute his expertise in water quality and nature-based solutions in the urban water cycle to GREENIN. He will participate in rapid reviews, mentor early career network members, organise workshops, chair sandpit events, and leverage his international connections to promote GREENIN.
